A brand book can always keep evolving

So much research is coming out about the dangers of too much technology in the lives of our children. Reducing their attention spans. Damaging their self-esteem. Inhibiting real relationships.
And all this is true. There are great things about technology, but there is also dangers. It is good to have technology boundaries for our kids. Hopefully we can work with them to set the boundaries and not have it be such a consistent source of conflict but that is a post for another day.
Today I want to talk about something hugely important in equipping our kids to fight the potential negative impacts of technology influence.
We build identity into them.
Parents, with the enemy using technology and a more hostile culture environment to do all he can to steal, kill, and destroy our kids’ hearts, we don’t just fight with protection. We also fight with telling our kids who they are.
That they are fearfully and wonderfully made by a loving God. (Psalm 139:14)
That we as their parents are proud of them.
That we are super glad God brought them into our family.
That we believe in them.
That God is crazy about them and desires a relationship with them.
The stronger identity our kids have, the less the world will impact them in negative ways. If they believe God made them in His image, it will be easier for them to love themselves. If they believe they have the love and approval of their parents and siblings, they will see themselves differently in social environments.
Limiting technology is good but it is not the only answer. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
NIV 29:4 Ephesians
